I am troubled by what I recently heard a mega preacher say about Jesus. How when Jesus said "it is finished" that included our financial debts. This is absolutely not true!
The son of God, whose birthday we supposedly observe this week, came to Earth to provide permanent forgiveness for the sins of everyone. He was crucified, one of the most terrible deaths imaginable. First beaten to within an inch of his life by Roman soldiers. A person hung on a cross dies from suffocation.
When Jesus cried out "it is finished" he referred to his completion of every single prophecy made about Him in the Old Testament. And He was announcing that His and His Father's plan for salvation was now complete.
Jesus Christ is not a Christian's atm machine. And to think so is idolatry. As for the person putting forth such a theory...it may be blasphemy. Strong words? Yes. But this is how mega ministers fill their auditoriums. Preaching a bloody salvation - repentance message is not always popular. Making God your atm is so much easier. And so wrong.
